As part of their work looking at hospital discharge, Healthwatch Haringey are still keen to hear from more people who have been discharged from North Middlesex University Hospital in the past 12 months. They would also like to hear from relatives or carers of people who have been discharged from hospital. Haringey’s Respite Policy Consultation

Are you a carer? Do you want to have a say on Haringey’s respite policy?

Haringey Council together with Haringey Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is currently consulting on a draft respite policy.

The policy is intended to provide clarity for carers, service users and practitioners around a joint approach to respite care provision in the borough for children, young people and adults. They want to find out your views on the respite policy and ensure that all carers (including young carers), professionals and residents understand the role of respite for people with health and care needs and how respite services are delivered in Haringey. To ensure we provide everyone with enough time to respond, the consultation has been extended and will close on Tuesday 16 January 2018.

Two course hot lunch for only £5. Plus entertainment and speakers

Please note: It is really helpful for the lunch club to have an idea of numbers as soon as possible as lunches are becoming popular so do book in advance.

Please also let Jacksons Lane know of any vegetarian meals required in advance.

Wheelchair spaces must be booked in advance and discussed with Stuart over the phone. Due to space the venue can only accommodate 3 wheelchair spaces.

Monday, Dec 25, Christmas Day at Jackson’s Lane.

Information for Guests, Event Summary

For over 40 years, Jacksons Lane has organised a Christmas Day party for elderly and disabled people who would otherwise be on their own. It is an all-day event, starting at 10:30 am and ending at 4:30 pm. Up to 80 guests are provided with an excellent three-course turkey lunch, Christmas tea, a varied programme of entertainment, a Christmas gift and good company. The service is organised and run by volunteers and is provided free of charge. Admission by prior arrangement only.

Timetable

The festivities begin shortly after 10:45 am on Christmas morning with carol singing led by singers from the Highgate and Crouch End Choral Societies. At about 12:20 pm guests are served with a high quality three course roast turkey lunch. Vegetarian or special diet meals can be provided if booked in advance. Christmas tea is served at 3.45 pm. Throughout the day, there is entertainment to suit a wide range of tastes.

At 4:30 pm drivers arrive to take guests home.

Who Can Attend?

Guests must meet all 3 of the following criteria

1. be elderly or disabled

2. live anywhere in Haringey or within 3 miles of Jacksons Lane in another borough and

3. have nowhere else to go on Christmas day.

Couples are welcome if one or both of them is disabled. Most of our guests are elderly, but younger disabled people are also welcome. The event is unsuitable for people who require high levels of personal care or who tire easily.

Transport

All guests are offered transport to and from the Centre. Most are driven by volunteers in their own cars. Tail-lift minibuses are available for those who are too disabled to travel by car. Sadly, we can only cater for a limited number of wheelchair users who cannot transfer to a seat.

Most guests will be collected shortly after 10 am. Those who are travelling by minibus may need to be ready a bit earlier. If you are on the phone, your driver will try to contact you on Christmas Eve to tell you when to be ready.

If, on Christmas Day, you have not been picked up by 10.45 a.m. please ring the Centre on 020 8340 5226.

If you live close to the Centre and plan to make your own way, please use the main door at the top of the ramp. Please make sure your name is ticked off by the person at the door so that we know you have arrived.

Two course home cooked lunch (plus takeaways available after lunch). Meat and vegetarian options always available. Special diets catered for – please phone to book and discuss dietary requirements e.g. gluten free, diary free etc. Large groups can be catered for with advanced notice.

Book in advance where possible but we can take a few ‘walk-ins’ on the day.

There is an activity after lunch e.g. talk/discussion, quiz, arts and crafts etc

‘Please offer me a seat’ badge People who find it difficult to stand on public transport could soon have their journeys made easier thanks to a new badge and card designed to help them find seats. Similar to the ‘Baby on Board’ badge, the ‘Please offer me a seat’ badge and card were created by Transport for London following requests from customers, particularly those with invisible conditions and illnesses, who can struggle to get a seat. The new badge and card will help make Londoners understand the impact of invisible conditions and make getting a seat when needed easier. The free badge and card are available through the TfL website at: tfl.gov.uk/transport-accessibility/please-offer-me-a-seat or by telephoning Customer Services on 0343 222 1234.
